The Mental Health Matters for Violence Prevention Project is an initiative designed to empower individuals and families to be part of problem-solving. A traditional view has persisted to suggest that law enforcement, public officials, psychiatrists, counselors and others should be held more responsible than others — average citizens — for improving lives and changing communities most affected by violence. Instead of depending on so-called ‘experts,’ the project offers:
- resources and telephone contacts,
- educational workshops on mental health and violence prevention,
- learning from the experience of families affected by violence,
- access to articles and educational materials,
- and encouragement to youth and adults to participate in a creative contest to promote nonviolence.
Positive Development Inc. provides family reunification services and housing for teenage girls. For more information, call (414) 447–1080.
