WI WOMEN’S COUNCIL RELEASES FIRST EVER BENCHMARK STUDY OF WOMEN IN ELECTED OFFICES

The Women’s Council report, released today, covers more than 16,000 elected and appointed offices, finding that, in 2005, women held an estimated 20 percent of elected seats statewide and about 10 percent of local government leadership positions. By comparison, women held more than 80 percent of the more administrative elected and appointed offices such as clerks and treasurer across levels of government.

The report and press release are attached. A complete copy of the report is also available on the Women’s Council web site.
