Early Learning Challenge Fund Meets Varying Developmental Needs, Provides Supports for Working Families
Written July 27, 2009
On June 21, the House Education and Labor Committee passed legislation reforming the student loan system. As part of that package, the committee created a new landmark program, the Early Learning Challenge Fund. The new program, if passed by Congress, will invest $1 billion a year over 8 years to improve the quality of early childhood programs. The move is a needed first step to increase the access and availability of high quality programs for low-income children. CLASP wrote a letter to the House Committee on Education and Labor in support of the bill.
In addition, CLASP co-sponsored an audio conference that provided detailed information about the bill.
