WW=P hosts Burmaster reception, fundraiser for Nicolet scholarships
Written: September 18, 2009
EVENT DATE: Thursday, October 8, 2009
CONTACT: Pam Gokey or Leanne Miranda (365–4434), Kris Adams Wendt (282–3558)
When the Northwoods chapter of Wisconsin Women Equals Prosperity (WW=P) sought a way to celebrate Elizabeth “Libby” Burmaster’s investiture as president of Nicolet Area Technical College, the women chose to organize an event benefitting the college Displaced Homemakers Program (DHP).
While the federal government’s official moniker for the program may sound a bit old fashioned, the women and men who benefit from local donations to DHP scholarships receive modern job skills training enabling their successful return to the twenty-first century work force.
“Voices of Success” will be held at the Nicolet College LRC Theater from 7 to 9 PM on Thursday, October 8. Popular songwriter and storyteller David Dall will highlight a program including remarks by Burmaster and featuring the success stories of Nicolet students from the DHP program.
A $20 tax deductable contribution with all proceeds going to DHP scholarships includes admission to the musical program and scrumptious desserts prepared by Nicolet Culinary Arts students. A silent auction of themed baskets donated by WW=P members and local businesses will also benefit the scholarship fund.
Advanced tickets may be purchased at Nicolet College UTC Room 213, Brown Street Books and The Crimson Cup in Rhinelander; the Many Ways of Peace Center (217 South Main) in Eagle River; or by contacting Kay Hoff at 715–588–1409 in the Minocqua area, as well as being available at the door.
Northwoods WW=P is one of a dozen Regional Solutions Networks engaged in solutions-based community action throughout the state since 2004. Wisconsin Women Equals Prosperity goals support raising the status of women in four key areas: economic sufficiency, educational achievement, leadership and political participation and health, safety and well being.
