LuAnn Bird also served on WW=P’s Advisory Council and provided support to WW=P networks forming in Green Bay, Appleton, Oshkosh, Fond du Lac, Manitowoc and Sheboygan. She is currently Board Governance Consultant for the Wisconsin Association of School Boards, where she provides consulting services for school boards that want to improve governance and provide leadership for student success.
Prior to that, LuAnn was the fund developer for ADVOCAP, a community action agency whose mission is to reduce poverty in Fond du Lac, Green Lake, and Winnebago Counties. Before that, she was the executive director and lobbyist for the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin in Madison. She resigned her position to run for the Assembly in 2004. LuAnn is an active member and past president of the League of Women Voters of Oshkosh. She also was twice elected to the Oshkosh School Board and served as president.
Her education includes an associate degree in quality management from Fox Valley Technical College and a Bachelor of Arts degree in community leadership and development from Alverno College in Milwaukee. Currently she serves on the Alverno Alumnae Board.
LuAnn is married and has two children. Her husband, Phil, owns Bird’s Lawn Service and is a bookkeeper and Sanitary District Commissioner. Their daughter Elizabeth, a flutist, attends Lawrence University in Appleton and is working on her Bachelor of Music degree in music education. Their son Tom, a senior at Oshkosh North High School, is exploring a career in nuclear engineering.
