The Medical College of Wisconsin Seeks PhD Public and Community Health Candidates
The Medical College of Wisconsin is pleased to announce that applications for the third year of their new doctoral program in Public and Community Health are now being accepted for Fall 2010 admission consideration.
Background
This is the only PhD Program in Public and Community Health of its kind in Wisconsin and one of very few nation-wide that emphasizes public health research moving increasingly toward community-based interventions. The purpose of the Program is to transform the research paradigm in public and community health by educating a new generation of innovative researchers who will integrate the rigors of traditional public health sciences with the essential components of community health improvement through participation and partnership.
Tuition Information
All program students in good academic standing will receive a complete tuition scholarship, generous stipend for living expenses, and health insurance.
Student Information
This competitive program, accepts only 2 - 3 students annually. We are currently recruiting educators, public servants, public health undergraduates and graduates, and those interested in leadership roles of community-based participatory research in their professional, research, teaching and civic lives.
Curriculum and Research
This 97-credit, full-time doctoral program can be completed in 4 years. The theme of community health improvement is integrated throughout the curriculum, covering such topics as principles and practices of community partnerships, principles and methods of community-based participatory research and translating community health improvement into policy. Coursework during the first two years encompasses the core public health disciplines of epidemiology, biostatistics, bioethics, health policy, and social and behavioral health sciences. A rich array of independent research opportunities from which students can select will be explored in the doctoral seminar in the first semester and continue through the first two years. The final portion of the curriculum will be devoted to student-community engagement and project research towards a dissertation.
