Journey House seeks a Development Coordinator for Urban Economics Program

Anticipated Start Date: November 30, 2009

Summary: This position is a liaison to Cesar Chavez Business Improvement District (BID) and will promote new and existing business development in the Clarke Square neighborhood. Accordingly the Urban Economic Development Coordinator will develop, manage and implement programs and projects that meet the goals of the Cesar Chavez BID as recommended by the BID Board in coordination with Journey House for the leadership of the Clarke Square Quality of Life Plan through the Zilber Neighborhood Initiative (ZNI).

Act as the champion, advocate, spokesperson, and ambassador for the Cesar Chavez BID and to serve as staff to the BID to develop the BID in terms of organization, promotion, safety, design, resource and economic development. In addition, the Urban Economic Development Coordinator will develop and instruct entrepreneurship training workshops to fifteen institute students that lead to an achievement certificate.

The Urban Economic Development Coordinator will serve as a guide and consultant to young entrepreneurs to students completing the training workshops. The Urban Economic Development Coordinator will work with businesses and developers to promote investment in Clarke Square and leverage resources and networks to foster development projects. Additionally, the Urban Economic Development Coordinator will assist other institute staff with employment opportunities for participants of the institute.

The Urban Economic Development Coordinator will work closely with and report directly to the Urban Careers Institute Project Director, who oversees all aspects of the Urban Careers Institute and the Cesar Chavez Business Improvement District (BID) board of Directors. The Urban Economic Development Coordinator will also play a role in supporting and promoting the citywide Zilber Neighborhood Initiative and the Clarke Square Quality of Life Plan. In all instances the Urban Economic Development Coordinator must perform in accordance with and be committed to the Journey House mission and vision.
