The African American Women’s Fund Project Seeks Organizations to Receive Grant Money
GREAT NEWS! The African American Women’s Fund Project (AAWFP) has successfully raised matching dollars to take advantage of a grant through the Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors’ Cultures of Giving Program with major funding by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. This opportunity provides AAWFP an opportunity to identify and fund organizations that are aligned with our mission to “support African American women and girls in the greater Milwaukee area through a citywide collective effort that brings a better quality of life.” Their fund is about “women helping women” and being responsible for the well-being and health of African American women who represent the future. The Fund has committed to the creation of an endowment that will eventually provide ongoing financial support.
FUNDING FOCUS: AAWFP will provide grants ranging from $500 to $5,000. Grantees will be organizations that identify unique, creative, innovative projects and initiatives/activities that meet the needs of African American women and girls in the areas of education, health, employment, training and/or leadership development. Amounts are to be expended during a funding period of November 2009 through October 2010. It is not expected that renewed funding of specific mini-grant projects will be automatic. Mini-grants are intended to foster the development or significant enhancement of a unique opportunity for the women and/or girls that are served.
