Prosperity: The Issues
WW=P has defined prosperity as the ability to feed, clothe, house, educate and nurture yourself and your family and have that extra personal or social capital that allows you to make a contribution to your community as well. We work to discover the conditions that will make prosperity a reality for all women in Wisconsin . When women thrive, Wisconsin thrives!
An absence of progress for women in areas related to economic prosperity helped create a focus on 4 building block issues:
During the first two years of the WW=P initiative project leaders - an unprecedented team of high level volunteers from every discipline - conducted an assessment of the issues through
⇒ task forces,
⇒ 13 statewide open forums, and through
⇒ research provided by the UW Madison LaFollette School for Public Affairs.
⇒ A Leadership Symposium in June 2004 and
⇒ a Corporate Advisory Summit in January 2005
laid the groundwork for a statewide action plan presented at the Wisconsin Women Forward! Convention in March 2005.
Twelve Regional Solutions Networks have now been organized by project leaders to help create strategies to support the 4 prosperity-building issues. Each of the issues is supported by 3 Take Action opportunities (12 in all). Read and download the Take Action Papers which capture them; each provides practical steps women and allied men can take to make Wisconsin a destination of choice for women of all ages.
Outcomes Summary:
2003 - Completed assessment of building block issues with a specific focus on opportunities for greatest progress.
2004 - Built a plan and created a statewide structure to engage a prosperity strategy.
2005 - Take Action! Provided 12 options for improving the status of women through positive civic, social, community, professional and legislative activity through Regional Solutions Networks.
