Margaret Wheatley Revival Tour
June 16, 2008
Nearly 400 women packed Alumnae Auditorium late Monday evening, June 16, 2008 when Margaret Wheatley stopped in Milwaukee on her Leadership Revival Tour. One Drum, a local African drumming group, set the pace for the evening, providing a rhythmic, pulsating beat, giving a glance of what was to come. The event promised to motivate and promote women’s leadership throughout the nation — and so it did.

A diversity of age, race, socio-economic, and educational levels filled the chairs, riveted by Wheatley’s talk of eye-opening travels and praise of feminine leadership through positive reinforcement. She emphasized the need for women to think big and work together. Enforcing her own advice, she then facilitated small-group conversations amid her audience. The once-strangers gathered the support and inspiration necessary to take the next step of enacting change in the world.
Pianist Barbara McAfee accompanied Wheatley throughout the presentation with encouraging lyrics, and the evening crescendoed with the thematic tune: “When Women Rise, Mountains Move.” In response, the audience came to their feet en masse, some clapping, some singing along, creating among themselves the rumblings of hopeful earthshakings to come.
